New for 2024: Video for 1988; new entry for 2023
1972: After impressing John Hammond the day prior, Bruce records fourteen demo tracks at Columbia Records in New York City. Four of them (“Mary Queen of Arkansas,” “It’s Hard to Be a Saint in the City,” “Growin’ Up,” and “Does This Bus Stop at 82nd Street?” will be released more than a quarter century later on Tracks. Others, like “Two Hearts in True Waltz Time” and “Street Queen,” remain unreleased.
1976: Bruce plays his first-ever show in Arkansas, at the Robinson Auditorium in Little Rock.
1981: The original River Tour stops for a night at the Scandinavium in Gothenburg, Sweden. This is Bruce’s first show in Sweden since 1975, so local fans are treated to their first performances of “Darkness on the Edge of Town,” “The Promised Land” and other Darkness tracks along with cuts from The River.
1988: Night Two at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, California for the Tunnel of Love Express features the first “Little Latin Lupe Lu” in over ten years, along with the tour debut of “Twist and Shout.” Check out the rare soundcheck of “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry.”
2000: Born to Run is certified 6x multi-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, and Canada gets its first Reunion show on the first of two nights at the Air Canada Center in Toronto.
2001: Live in New York City is certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.
2005: At the second night at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood, fans hear the tour premieres of “My Beautiful Reward” (in a beautiful new pump organ arrangement), “Empty Sky,” “The River,” “Tougher Than the Rest,” “All the Way Home,” and “The Line.” Nils makes a guest appearance on “Waitin’ on a Sunny Day.”
2009: Bruce performs at the Clearwater Concert at Madison Square Garden, honoring Pete Seeger’s 90th birthday.
2013: At the first of three Wrecking Ball shows at Friends Arena in Solna, Sweden, Bruce plays the full Born to Run album start to finish–the first time he has done this outside of the United States. In the encores, Bruce opens with an acoustic performance of “Mountain of Love,” and Elliott Murphy joins Bruce and the band for “Glory Days.”
2014: Bruce makes a return visit (his third) to the New Orleans Jazz Festival for an afternoon show. Rickie Lee Jones joins Bruce for seven songs, and John Fogerty for two of his own (“Green River” and “Proud Mary”). Tour debuting tonight: “How Can a Poor Man Stand Such Times and Live” and “When the Saints Go Marching In.”
That evening, Bruce opens a tribute show to Dr. John, performing “Right Place, Wrong Time” as a duet with Dr. John.
2018: Springsteen on Broadway continues its theatrical run at the Walter Kerr Theater in New York City.
2023: Bruce stops by Windmill Lane Recording Studio in Dublin to contribute vocals for “History Books” the title track for Gaslight Anthem’s upcoming album.
