1949: Steel Mill member Robbin Thompson is born.
1974: Under record label pressure to release a new single, Bruce cancels a scheduled performance at Houston’s Music Hall.
1978: Darkness on the Edge of Town is certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. That evening, Bruce and the E Street Band bring the Darkness Tour to Memorial Hall in Kansas City.
1983: At The Hit Factory in New York City, Bruce records both “Stand On It” and “Janey Don’t You Lose Heart.”
1988: Bruce and the E Street Band play their second of two nights at Stadio Flaminio in Rome. “The River” makes its tour debut, as the Tunnel of Love Tour set lists begin morphing away from the album.

2004: Patti Scialfa makes a guest appearance on Late Night With Conan O’Brien in support of her new album, 23rd Street Lullaby. Watch the rehearsals and full performance below.
2005: The Devils & Dust Tour finishes its German leg with a show at Philipshalle in Dusseldorf. Bruce tour premieres “Highway 29,” “I Wish I Were Blind,” and “Mary’s Place.”
2006: Bruce and the Sessions Band tour premiere “Long Time Comin’” and a solo acoustic “Into the Fire” at their show in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
2008: The Magic Tour stops at LTU Arena in Dusseldorf, where power outages interrupt the show twice during the opening songs.
2011: While Clarence fights for his life, Lady Gaga releases the video for “The Edge of Glory,” featuring Clarence’s final performance.
2017: The New York Post breaks the news–unconfirmed–that Bruce will play an eight-week run on Broadway at the Walter Kerr Theater. The news is greeted with a mix of excitement, skepticism and bewilderment. No confirmation or denial is issued by the Springsteen camp.
2018: Springsteen on Broadway continues its theatrical run at the Walter Kerr Theater in New York City. In attendance tonight: U2’s The Edge.
2021: The Killers release their new video for “Dustland,” featuring an appearance by Bruce. Bruce and Brandon Flowers appear remotely on Today that morning to discuss their collaboration.
2022: Bruce makes a surprise appearance at Paul McCartney’s show at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, dueting with McCartney on “Glory Days” and “I Wanna Be Your Man.” He returns during the encore to play guitar on “The End.”
