New for 2023: No updates

1972: Bruce and Clarence play together for only the second time ever when Bruce makes a guest appearance with Clarence’s band, Norman Seldin and the Joyful Noyze, at The Shipbottom Lounge in Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey.

1973: A scheduled gig in Chester, West Virginia, is believed to have been cancelled.

1978: Bruce and the E Street Band play to a half-sold Kiel Auditorium in St. Louis on the Darkness Tour. In attendance is 18-year-old Michael Stipe, who will share a stage with Bruce decades later when he fronts the rock band R.E.M.

1992: At Night Two in Stockholm and for World Tour 1992 itself, Bruce plays “All or Nothin’ at All” and “Real Man” for the first time.

1999: I’m on Fire” makes its Reunion Tour debut when Bruce and the E Street Band make a Reunion Tour stop at Weserstadion in Bremen, Germany. During the pre-show soundcheck, Bruce plays the first known performance of “Waitin’ on a Sunny Day.”

2000: At Night Three of ten at the Reunion Tour-closing Madison Square Garden stand, Bruce and the band play “The E Street Shuffle” for the first time in 25 years. (Bruce seems to have forgotten he’d ever played it at all.) Bruce opens the show with his third-ever performance of “Code of Silence.”

2003: Night Two in Helsinki on the Rising Tour. “You’re Missing” drops out of the set list for the first time, replaced by “The River,” as the tour set list begins its customary loosening toward its final months.

2004: Promoting her new album, 23rd Street Lullaby, Patti Scialfa makes a guest appearance and performance on The View.

2006: Bruce and the Sessions Band make a tour stop at the DTE Energy Music Theater in Clarkston, Michigan. The performance of “Bring ‘Em Home” on the American Land edition of We Shall Overcome was recorded at this show, as was the official video for “Pay Me My Money Down.”

2012: Bruce brings the Wrecking Ball Tour to Madrid and plays “Spanish Eyes” for the very first time. Southside Johnny is in town and joins Bruce and the E Street Band for a hilarious “Talk to Me” and “Twist and Shout.”

2016: Bruce opens his River show in Munich with the tour premiere of the Darkness Tour arrangement of “Prove It All Night” and closes with a solo acoustic guitar performance of “For You.”

2020: Bruce releases Episode 6 (“Down to the River to Pray”) of his From My Home to Yours radio show on E Street Radio. This episode is a somber one: as the coronavirus pandemic rages and claims lives, Bruce pays his respects to the fallen.

One Reply to “Kingdom of Days: June 17”

  1. “Waitin’ On a Sunny Day” sounds much better in the Bremen soundcheck (6.17.99) than the eventual recorded version. “Harder-edged” and faster with a slightly different, underdeveloped chorus. Would have worked real well in concert; one would not tire of hearing. Nice guitar solo at the coda.
