New for 2024: Audio for 1973 and 1998; video for 2016; new entry for 2023

1973: Bruce and the band eventually known as E Street open a six-night, two-shows-nightly stand at Max’s Kansas City in New York City, opening for Biff Rose. Several tracks from this show are professionally recorded for use on The King Biscuit Flower Hour, but only “Bishop Danced” will actually be aired. That “Bishop Danced” recording, however, will see the light of day again 25 years later, when it is released on Tracks.

The late show was recorded, too–but only the first two songs have surfaced. But those songs are ultra–rare and heard by very few fans in concert: “Saga of the Architect Angel” and “Song for Orphans.” Listen to both below.

1981: Bruce and the band enjoy their second day off in the Twin Cities (except for Roy, who has an ear infection). Bruce spends the evening playing pool and pinball at a bar called Zoogies, where he catches a local band called The Suburbs.

1989: Video Anthology 1978-88 is released on VHS, the first collection of Bruce’s music videos.

1991: Bruce records “Loose Change” at The Record Plant in Los Angeles.

1997: Bruce plays his final of four solo acoustic shows in Tokyo. He won’t perform in Japan again (at least to date).

1998: Come Together, a special benefit concert for the Sergeant Patrick King Memorial Fund, gathers Bruce, Jon Bon Jovi, Little Steven, Southside Johnny, Max Weinberg, Bobby Bandiera and others at the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank, New Jersey. King was a police officer from Long Branch who was killed two months prior while on duty.

2006: E Street Radio’s limited-run engagement comes to an end on Sirius Satellite Radio, but it will return more than a year-and-a-half later.

2010: Bruce wins the Grammy Award for Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance for “Working on a Dream,” the only one of his four nominations this year to earn him an award. Bruce was also nominated for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals for “Sea of Heartbreak” with Rosanne Cash; Best Rock Song for “Working on a Dream,” and Best Song Written for a Motion Picture for “The Wrestler.

2016: The River Tour (2016 edition) makes a stop at the Prudential Center in Newark, where “Lonesome Day,” “Working on the Highway,” and “Atlantic City” make their tour debuts.

2018: Springsteen on Broadway continues its theatrical run at the Walter Kerr Theater in New York City.

2023: Bruce and the E Street Band rehearse for their upcoming world tour opener at Amalie Arena in Tampa.
