New for 2024: No updates

1966: The Castiles play the Matawan-Keyport Roller Drome in Matawan, New Jersey. Can you believe you could once see Bruce play for $1.25?

1971: Bruce sits in with Steve Van Zandt and The Big Bad Bobby Williams Band (which included Garry Tallent, Dave Sancious, and Southside Johnny) at The Upstage in Asbury Park.

1972: The Bruce Springsteen Band continues a three-night gig at The Captain’s Garter in Neptune, New Jersey.

1974: Bruce and the band open for Freddie King at Muther’s Music Emporium in Nashville. Intended as an unofficial promotional opportunity co-located with a CBS Sales Convention, Mike Appel is unable to drum up the attendance he’d hoped for, and the theater is quite empty–but the show is recorded from the soundboard nonetheless. Listen to the unusual arrangement of “Incident on 57th Street” below.

1981:  Bruce and the E Street Band play Iowa State University on The River Tour.

1991: Bruce records “Goin’ Cali” at A&M Studios in Los Angeles. It will be released seven years later on Tracks.

1997: Bruce plays the second night of four in Tokyo on his solo acoustic tour.

2009: Bruce and the E Street Band hold a press conference (Bruce’s first in over twenty years) for their upcoming Super Bowl performance.

2011:  Bruce plays a benefit for his kids’ school at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, joined by Bobby Bandiera, Max Weinberg, and Southside Johnny.

2014: The final night in Cape Town brings sixteen tour premieres, including the first-ever performance of “This Is Your Sword.” Mos Def guest-stars in the encore for “Sun City.” (If you look really hard, you can see me up front leaning on the stage rail on the right of the pit.) For highlights and memories, see my Where the Band Was report.

Also today: Le Grand Journal publishes Antoine de Caunes’ interview with Bruce.

2016: The River Tour (2016 Edition) moves on to the Verizon Center in Washington, DC.
