1948: Bruce’s good friend, frequent co-performer, and one-time bandmate Southside Johnny Lyon is born in Neptune, New Jersey.
1971: The Bruce Springsteen Band is in residence at the Student Prince in Asbury Park.
1980: At their River Tour stop at the Buffalo Memorial Auditorium, Bruce and the E Street Band tour premiere “I Fought the Law” and officially usher in the holiday season with their first “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town” of the tour. Check out rare video footage of a couple of songs.
1990: Bruce records “My Lover Man” at Soundworks West in Los Angeles.
1999: The Diasco family gets an unexpected Christmas bonus: in June, they’d bid on and won a private Bon Jovi performance at their home in an auction benefiting the Doug Flutie Autism Foundation; when the band shows up to honor their obligation, they bring along some friends: Bruce, Patti, and Southside Johnny. Bruce joins Bon Jovi for six songs.
2001: Bruce, The Max Weinberg 7 and a host of friends play their second of five holiday shows at Asbury Park’s Convention Hall in support of local charities. All of last night’s guests are present, plus The Miami Horns, who kick things off with “Deck the Halls,” followed by “Wild Billy’s Circus Story” played by just Bruce and Garry (on tuba).
2002: The Rising Tour stops at Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh, where Joe Grushecky joins Bruce for the tour premiere of “Code of Silence” and stays through “Glory Days” and “Born to Run.” Bruce also tour premieres “Youngstown” and the show-closing “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town.”
2007: The Magic Tour heads north to Scandinavia, starting with a show at the Oslo Spektrum.
2012: Bruce kicks off his last week of the American Wrecking Ball Tour with a show at the Honda Center in Anaheim. Tom Morello joins the band for seven songs, including the show opener and closer, and Mike Ness makes a guest appearance as well for the tour premiere of “Bad Luck.” “Long Time Comin’” also makes its tour debut at this show.
2015: Just in time for the holidays, Bruce releases The Ties That Bind: The River Collection, featuring a remastered version of his classic album, and bonus discs of outtakes and a never-before-released live concert video. Also on this date: Bruce announces a new tour to support the boxed set, kicking off in January.
2018: Springsteen on Broadway continues its theatrical run at the Walter Kerr Theater in New York City.
