New for 2023: Audio for 2002
1974: Bruce and the E Street Band play their second of two nights at the Tower Theater in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania. We can forgive the reviewer for mis-identifying “Jungle Man,” since the song is still almost a year from being released.
1976: Bruce and the boys play their fourth of six nights at the Palladium in New York City on the Lawsuit Tour.
1978: The final leg of the Darkness Tour picks up steam at the Capital Center in Largo.
1984: Bruce and the E Street Band play their sixth of seven nights at the L.A. Memorial Sports Arena, where “Johnny Bye-Bye” returns to the set for its second tour performance, and “Stolen Car” gets a rare outing.
1997: Asked to contribute a song for an upcoming Pete Seeger tribute album, Bruce contacts a group of musicians he’d recently met (members of The Gotham Playboys, who had played private parties at his house) and some additional friends, and he assembles the ensemble at his home studio in Rumson. The recording session that ensues will become known as the first “Seeger Session,” and six songs are recorded: “We Shall Overcome,” “My Oklahoma Home,” “Jesse James,” “Hobo’s Lullaby, “I Come and Stand at Every Door,” and “Pretty Boy Floyd.” Those last two are still unreleased to this day.
2002: Bruce makes his by now expected appearance at the third annual Light of Day benefit at Tradewinds in Sea Bright, once again joining Joe Grushecky and The Houserockers for an hour of their set. Garland Jeffreys and Bob Benjamin join in the fun, as does Gary U.S. Bonds, who plays a set of his own later that night. Around midnight, Bruce returned to the stage with Bonds to play “Jole Blon” and “Quarter to Three.”
2007: The Magic Tour treks east, stopping for a night at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. A few songs are captured up close in amazing quality–check them out below.
2008: Bruce debuts a brand-new song, “Working on a Dream,” at a rally for U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama in Cleveland. Bruce plays a mini-set of six songs.
2009: It’s the final outing for “Outlaw Pete” (for five years at least) and the tour premiere of “Stand On It” when Bruce and the E Street Band bring the Working on a Dream Tour to the Verizon Center in Washington, DC. Lucky fans also get a full album performance of Born to Run and a rare “Pink Cadillac.”
2012: Bruce and the E Street Band headline a national telethon for Hurricane Sandy relief from Studio 6A at Rockefeller Center. They only perform “Land of Hope and Dreams” (shortened at that), but Bruce also makes a guest appearance earlier in the night with Billy Joel, Steven Tyler, and Jimmy Fallon on “Under the Boardwalk.”
2017: Springsteen on Broadway continues its theatrical run at the Walter Kerr Theater in New York City. In attendance tonight: NBC Today Show anchors Hoda Kotb and Maria Shriver.
2018: Springsteen on Broadway continues its theatrical run at the Walter Kerr Theater in New York City. Patti is absent tonight, so the show features its “B” setlist. Earlier in the day, the official audio release of Springsteen on Broadway is announced, and “Land of Hope and Dreams” is released as its first single.
