“Midnight Train” is a Joe Ely deep cut from Wheels of Fortune, the 2004 comeback album for The Flatlanders, of which Ely was a founding member.

The song is rich with the kind of roaming, restless energy and train imagery that makes a Springsteen collaboration feel almost inevitable, despite the track’s relative obscurity.

It happened at SxSW 2012: Bruce joined his Texas buddies Joe Ely and Alejandro Escovedo for The Flatlanders’ “Midnight Train.”
