{"id":4180,"date":"2018-09-05T05:00:43","date_gmt":"2018-09-05T12:00:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/estreetshuffle.com\/?p=4180"},"modified":"2024-01-01T15:48:33","modified_gmt":"2024-01-01T23:48:33","slug":"cover-me-precious-memories","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/estreetshuffle.com\/index.php\/2018\/09\/05\/cover-me-precious-memories\/","title":{"rendered":"Cover Me: Precious Memories"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bruce was fascinated with traditional American folk and gospel long,\u00a0<em>long<\/em> before the Seeger Sessions.<\/p>\n<p>Although it took until his 2006 album\u00a0for us to hear Bruce&#8217;s arrangements, we&#8217;d occasionally catch a glimpse through live tracks like &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/estreetshuffle.com\/index.php\/2023\/07\/04\/cover-me-this-land-is-your-land\/\">This Land is Your Land<\/a>,&#8221; and compilation releases like &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/estreetshuffle.com\/index.php\/2018\/08\/15\/roll-of-the-dice-cover-me-we-shall-overcome\/\">We Shall Overcome<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But way back in the autumn of 1981, Bruce was tinkering with the classic gospel hymn &#8220;Precious Memories,&#8221; and he happened to capture it on tape&#8211;and that tape happened to leak. Take a listen to the fascinating one-minute, double-tracked snippet below. Wright in 1935) in a variety of styles. Sister Rosetta Tharpe&#8217;s version was one of the more prominent early recordings&#8230;<\/p>\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"758\" height=\"427\" Bruce&#8217;s country-ish arrangement, it&#8217;s possible that Willie Nelson&#8217;s version (released in 1976) was at least somewhere in mind.<\/p>\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><span far as we know, Bruce never recorded &#8220;Precious Memories&#8221; in full and has never covered it live, so we&#8217;re left to wonder what he might have done with it with a band as talented as he
