{"id":4043,"date":"1988-10-02T11:00:00","date_gmt":"1988-10-02T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/estreetshuffle.com\/?p=4043"},"modified":"2026-02-26T21:45:47","modified_gmt":"2026-02-27T05:45:47","slug":"meeting-across-the-river-bruce-springsteen-and-the-who-wont-get-fooled-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/estreetshuffle.com\/index.php\/1988\/10\/02\/meeting-across-the-river-bruce-springsteen-and-the-who-wont-get-fooled-again\/","title":{"rendered":"Won&#8217;t Get Fooled Again"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On May 28, 2015, the MusiCares Foundation honored Pete Townshend at their annual MAP Fund concert, and Townshend&#8217;s award was presented by Bruce.<\/p>\n<p>Bruce has cited The Who as a major influence on several occasions, most notably in an entertaining and enlightening conversation with Steve Van Zandt on the Underground Garage in 2011:<\/p>\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-4043-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"http:\/\/estreetshuffle.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/01-Track-11.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/estreetshuffle.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/01-Track-11.mp3\">http:\/\/estreetshuffle.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/01-Track-11.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p>After Bruce presented the award, he joined Pete and Roger Daltrey on-stage for &#8220;My Generation,&#8221; and at the end of the night, he came back out (along with Willie Nile and Billy Idol) for &#8220;Won&#8217;t Get Fooled Again.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"758\" height=\"427\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/W2bcUlm863U?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<p>But that wasn&#8217;t the first time Bruce played that song with Pete and Roger&#8211;the first and only other time was in 1990, when The Who were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
