{"id":28156,"date":"2021-08-03T05:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-08-03T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/estreetshuffle.com\/?p=28156"},"modified":"2021-08-02T19:48:07","modified_gmt":"2021-08-03T02:48:07","slug":"roll-of-the-dice-sweet-melinda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/estreetshuffle.com\/index.php\/2021\/08\/03\/roll-of-the-dice-sweet-melinda\/","title":{"rendered":"Roll of the Dice: Sweet Melinda"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bruce&#8217;s early band Steel Mill was known for its heavy sound and epic guitar jams, but even the heaviest of sets need to lighten up from time to time.<\/p>\n<p>From late 1969 through their final show in early 1971, the band used &#8220;Sweet Melinda,&#8221; an early original Springsteen composition, as a mid-set palate cleanser and reprieve for the audience.<\/p>\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"758\" height=\"427\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6MBQs65H8C4?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<p>Bruce&#8217;s &#8220;Sweet Melinda&#8221; lyrics are more sly and sassy than sweet, and his vocals are deliberately and delightfully drunken and sloppy. The band follows Bruce&#8217;s loose lead, strutting and sashaying their way through a performance that evokes nothing so much as closing time at a local dive bar.<\/p>\n<p>As for our heroine, she&#8217;s certainly a crowd-pleaser, with a reputation (&#8220;All the gang told me&#8221;) she seems to live up to when our narrator finds himself fortunate to have his parents&#8217; house to himself.
