Instead, it slipped out the door when no one was looking, hitched a ride on the b-side of a &#8220;Leap of Faith&#8221; promo single, and took off for Austria, The Netherlands, Japan, and Australia&#8211;the only countries that ever saw anything resembling an official release for this song.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m mystified, because &#8220;30 Days Out&#8221; is a darn good song, stronger than many of the songs that made it to the album.<\/p>\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"758\" height=\"427\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_Q0lHPaq7eE?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<p>Musically, &#8220;30 Days Out&#8221; suffers from the same overproduction that plagues\u00a0<em>Human Touch.\u00a0<\/em>(There&#8217;s an album I&#8217;d love to see Bruce completely re-record some day.) But it grooves, the lyrics are catchy, and Bruce&#8217;s vocals are at his peak, some of his purest on record.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps the reason Bruce cast this song off is that lyrically, it&#8217;s ground well trod for him:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left; padding-left: 30px;\"><em>We fell in love and I made you the world<\/em><br \/>\n<em>I spent all my time trying to satisfy you, girl<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Just one thing that I can&#8217;t figure out<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Closer I get, farther baby I am out<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>Thirty days, thirty days out<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Well I&#8217;m six days running but I&#8217;m thirty days out<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Thirty days, thirty days out<\/em><br \/>\n<em>With every kiss you leave a little shadow of doubt<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>The roof was leaking honey where we live<\/em><br \/>\n<em>And I&#8217;m wondering what&#8217;s that something that you won&#8217;t give<\/em><br \/>\n<em>I started loving you but I gotta stop<\/em><br \/>\n<em>You got me mostly waiting for that other shoe to drop<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>Tried to talk about what&#8217;s going on<\/em><br \/>\n<em>You just smile and tell me &#8220;Baby there ain&#8217;t nothing wrong&#8221;<\/em><br \/>\n<em>In your smile there&#8217;s a sign in red<\/em><br \/>\n<em>It said &#8220;Thousand miles of hard road dead ahead&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The notion of the mysterious girl he can never quite please&#8211;who remains just emotionally out of reach even though she professes otherwise&#8211;that&#8217;s familiar territory in the vein of &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/estreetshuffle.com\/index.php\/2021\/06\/05\/roll-of-the-dice-im-goin-down\/\">I&#8217;m Goin&#8217; Down<\/a>,&#8221; &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/estreetshuffle.com\/index.php\/2018\/02\/06\/roll-of-the-dice-brilliant-disguise\/\">Brilliant Disguise<\/a>&#8221; and &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/estreetshuffle.com\/index.php\/2019\/05\/30\/roll-of-the-dice-secret-garden\/\">Secret Garden<\/a>.&#8221; Even &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/estreetshuffle.com\/index.php\/2018\/08\/17\/roll-of-the-dice-one-step-up\/\">One Step Up<\/a>&#8221; compares in its titular hook and its ain&#8217;t-burning furnace vs. the leaky roof in &#8220;30 Days Out.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps Bruce felt he&#8217;d gone to that well a bit too often; regardless, &#8220;30 Days Out&#8221; deserves rediscovery and airtime in concert.
