Ronnie Spector (August 10, 1943 – January 12, 2022) – one of the greatest voices to ever grace the E Street stage.
One time only: Bruce joins an all-star array of artists for a show-closing Christmas carol at Sting and Trudie Styler’s 2016 Rainforest Benefit show.
The E Street Band finally gets an official recording credit in 1977 when Steve Van Zandt recruits them to back Ronnie Spector in the studio. Listen to Ronnie and the band cover Billy Joel’s “Say Goodbye to Hollywood.”
Bruce quoted it in “Born to Run” and imitated its sound, and in 1976 he finally had the chance to perform it with its original artist: Listen to Bruce Springsteen and Ronnie Spector play Spector’s signature “Be My Baby.”
Bruce closed the show at the 2016 Rainforest Fund holiday concert, playing five songs that included two live premieres and one fantastic team-up.
Ronnie Spector does an admirable cover of “Brilliant Disguise” — right up until the coda. You might not be able to unhear that part.
