New for 2024: Review for 1976; audio for 2006

1965: Castiles drummer Bart Haynes quits the band. A year later, Bart will join the Marines and ship out to Vietnam, where he will be killed in action. Bruce will remember Bart often–in his shows, in print, and on Broadway.

1971: The Bruce Springsteen Band opens for Cactus at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond.

1973: Bruce and the boys headline two shows at The Main Point in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania–their second of a three-night stand. Richard Blackwell makes a guest appearance on congas.

1976: Patti Smith guest-stars on Night Three (of six) at the Palladium in New York City, joining Bruce and the Band for an unusual version of “Rosalita (Come Out Tonight).”

1980: Bruce and the E Street Band kick off a four-night stand at the Los Angeles Sports Arena, where Flo and Eddie contribute guest backing vocals to “Hungry Heart.”

1984: Bruce releases the latest single, the title track from his mega-hit Born in the U.S.A. album.

1987: Bruce premieres the video for his latest single, “Brilliant Disguise,” the first single from Tunnel of LoveWatch the video and news coverage below.

Also today, Bruce donates a complete signed collection of his albums to The Rainbow Foundation to raise money via auction for local children in need.

1992: Bruce and his new touring band bring World Tour 1992 to Iowa State University in Ames.

2005: Bruce’s solo acoustic show at the TD Banknorth Garden in Boston is filmed but will remain unreleased with one exception: a video for “Matamoros Banks” that Bruce will release fourteen years later in support of Project Adelante. In the encores, Bruce tour premieres “Dirty Water” as a Boston special. In attendance tonight: Senator John Kerry.

2006: Bruce and the Sessions Band complete their Scandinavian leg with a show at the Globe Arena in Stockholm, where Bruce tour premieres “Jesus Was an Only Son.”

2007: At Night Two in Los Angeles on the Magic Tour, Bruce celebrates Halloween a day early, once again (as in Halloweens past) emerging from a coffin to start the show. Bruce also tour premieres “Kitty’s Back” during the encores.

2009: Bruce and Roy make a guest appearance with U2 and Patti Smith at Night Two of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25th Anniversary Concerts.

2012: A scheduled Wrecking Ball show in Rochester is postponed to the following day due to Hurricane Sandy.

2014: Bruce is interviewed for the New York Times book section, where he provides his reading recommendations.

2018: Springsteen on Broadway continues its theatrical run at the Walter Kerr Theater in New York City. In attendance tonight: Jimmy Fallon and former (and soon-to-be) Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.

2019: Fifth-grader Camryn Sherer interviews Bruce for her school newspaper and scores a genuine scoop when she asks him to share something no one knows about him.
