1953: Singer/songwriter and First Lady of E Street Vivienne Patricia Scialfa is born on this day in Deal, New Jersey. Happy birthday, Patti!
1966: The Castiles headline at the Loew’s 35 Shore Drive-in Theater’s 10th anniversary party in Hazlet, New Jersey.
1971: The Bruce Springsteen Band plays two shows at D’Scene in South Amboy, New Jersey. The setlist includes “Natural Magic,” “Goin’ Back to Georgia,” “Dance Dance Dance,” and more.
1975: Before their gig that evening at the Carter Barron Amphitheater in Washington, DC’s Rock Creek Park, Bruce stops by a local radio station for an on-air interview.
1976: Mike Appel countersues Bruce for breach of contract, escalating their legal battle.
1978: At the Bayfront Center Arena in St. Petersburg, Bruce opens his Darkness Tour show with his debut of “Oh Boy” and adds a second cover debut later in the show: Chuck Berry’s “Around and Around.”
1981: Southside Johnny guest-stars on “I Don’t Want to Go Home” when Bruce and the E Street Band bring the River Tour to Richfield for the first of two nights.
1987: Bruce makes a guest appearance with Jah Love at Key Largo in Belmar, New Jersey.
1999: At Night Seven of the opening fifteen-night stand of the U.S. Reunion Tour in the Meadowlands, Bruce opens with the first “The Ties That Bind” in 18 years and tour debuts (officially) a corny and charming “Give the Girl a Kiss” for Patti’s birthday. Bobby Bandiera makes an encore guest appearance on “Hungry Heart.”
2020: On the occasion of Patti Scialfa’s 67th birthday, her husband debuts Volume 9 of his ongoing radio show, From My Home to Yours. This episode is entitled (appropriately) “Rumble Doll.”
