1969: Child plays at The Auction Coffee House in Long Branch, New Jersey.
1970: Steel Mill plays an afternoon set at Freak Beach in East Long Branch, New Jersey.
1973: Bruce plays Madison Square Garden for the first time when he and his band open for Chicago.
1974: Under record label pressure to return to the recording studio and finish his next single, Bruce cancels a scheduled gig at the University of Texas at Arlington. It’s a late cancellation, as his appearance was still advertised as of five days prior.
1978: The Darkness Tour stops at Omaha’s Civic Auditorium Music Hall. Bruce won’t play in Omaha again for thirty years.
1981: Bruce joins Jackson Browne, Gary U.S. Bonds and others at Survival Sunday, an anti-nuke benefit event at the Hollywood Bowl. Watch the pro-shot performance below, including a duet with Jackson Browne on “The Promised Land” and a team-up with Gary U.S. Bonds on “Jole Blon.”
1989: Bruce joins Neil Young in Jones Beach State Park on Long Island for a show-closing “Down by the River.”
2003: The Rising Tour reaches Copenhagen, where Bruce tour premieres “Take ‘Em as They Come” and “Point Blank.”
2004: Volunteers remove and rescue the famous mural of Tillie from the condemned Palace Amusements in Asbury Park. Local news covers the event and plays up the Bruce connection.
Meanwhile, Patti films a performance and interview for The Late Show With David Letterman to promote her new album, 23rd Street Lullaby.
2006: Bruce and the Sessions Band make a tour stop at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee.
2008: Bruce plays Wales for the first time when the Magic Tour makes a stop at Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. Bruce opens with the tour premiere of “From Small Things (Big Things One Day Come)” for the occasion.
2009: The day after his set at Bonnaroo, Bruce checks out sets by MGMT, Band of Horses, and Okkervil River before joining Phish on stage at Bonnaroo for three epic jams: “Mustang Sally,” “Bobby Jean,” and “Glory Days.”
2016: The River Tour sequel resumes in The Hague, following Bruce and Patti’s 25th wedding anniversary, with Bruce’s 25th show in The Netherlands. To mark the occasion, Bruce tour premieres “From Small Things (Big Things One Day Come),” “Jersey Girl,” and “Racing in the Street.” An unusual note: this show features an opening act, The Stereophonics. 2018: Springsteen on Broadway continues its theatrical run at the Walter Kerr Theater in New York City.
2019: Bruce releases Western Stars, his nineteenth studio album, along with a video for the title track.
