1957: E Street Band violinist Soozie Tyrell is born in Pisa, Italy.
1969: Child plays an outdoor set at West End Park in Long Branch, New Jersey. (Note: Brucebase has this show assigned to Monday, May 5th. However, contemporaneous press coverage confirms that the date was actually Sunday, May 4th.)
1974: Bruce and the E Street Band headline Montclair State University’s Spring Carnival, opening with “New York City Serenade.”
1976: Bruce plays his first-ever show in Mississippi, at the Coliseum in Jackson.
1985: As “I’m on Fire” starts its decline on the charts, American Top 40 host Casey Kasem shares the story of the night Bruce broke into Graceland.
2000: On Night Two at the Air Canada Center in Toronto, Bruce plays “Incident on 57th Street” for the first time ever in Canada.
2008: Bruce is inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame by Danny DeVito. Later in the ceremony, Bruce inducts Frank Sinatra and plays “I Thank You” and “Glory Days” with La Bamba and The Hubcaps.
2009: Bruce brings the Working on a Dream Tour to the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York, where he plays the tour premieres of “Expressway to Your Heart” (by request) and “Rendezvous.” This show is available as part of Bruce’s official archive series–get it here.
2013: Bruce followed up an amazing Night One in Solna, Sweden, with an even hotter Night Two, opening with “My Love Will Not Let You Down,” “Leap of Faith,” “I’m a Rocker, “and “Better Days,” before finally dipping into the Wrecking Ball album. As he did the prior night, Bruce plays another full album–this time Darkness on the Edge of Town.
2018: Springsteen on Broadway continues its theatrical run at the Walter Kerr Theater in New York City.
2019: Bruce makes a surprise appearance at the Saban Theater in Los Angeles, joining Little Steven & The Disciples of Soul on stage for three songs: “Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out,” “Sun City,” and “I Don’t Want to Go Home.”
2023: In the area early for his upcoming shows in Dublin, Bruce stops by The Burrow pub in Rathangan, County Kildare, his Irish ancestral home. Over a pint, he leads the locals through a verse of “My Hometown.”
Upon returning to Dublin later in the day, Bruce pays a visit to the late Shane MacGowan, former lead singer of The Pogues.
