1981: The River Tour returns to Germany for a show at Festhalle in Frankfurt. What a deal you were offered if you lived in the U.K. at the time! Guest blogger Dan French made the journey for the show–read his adventure in today’s Where the Band Was report.
This show features the first-ever performance of “Point Blank” in Europe.
1990: Bruce performs with Tom Waits, Jimmie Wood, Karla Bonoff, Patti Scialfa, and Andrew Gold at Chuck Plotkin’s wedding reception.
1992: Bruce assembles his new band in person for the first time at Roy Bittan’s recording studio in Hollywood.
2002: Bruce, Patti, Max, Soozie, Bobby Bandiera, and Lisa Lowell play a benefit show for the Rumson Country Day School at The Stone Pony. The set is primarily cover tunes, with a few Bruce originals at the end.
2003: Bruce continues his trek across Canada with a show at Skyreach Centre in Edmonton.
2005: Bruce rehearses for his upcoming solo acoustic tour at the Paramount Theater in Asbury Park.
2008: Houston gets several surprises in its Magic show at the Toyota Center: Alejandro Escovedo and Joe Ely each make a guest appearance, Bruce opens with “Cadillac Ranch,” and plays “Terry’s Song” for the first time. Bruce’s and Alejandro’s performance of “Always a Friend” will be officially released on Magic Tour Highlights later in the year.
2016: Bob Seger guest-starred in the very first River Tour in 1980, so it’s only fitting for him to make an encore performance when the 2016 version of the River Tour returns to Michigan.
2018: HBO premieres a new documentary by director Thom Zimny, Elvis Presley: The Searcher. The two-part film features interviews with several musicians who either knew or were influenced by Elvis, and Bruce is one of the contributors in the latter category.
Meanwhile, Springsteen on Broadway continues its theatrical run at the Walter Kerr Theater in New York City.
2023: Bruce and the E Street Band close out the first domestic leg of their World Tour with a special homecoming show at Prudential Center in Newark. Bruce opens with “Local Hero,” an E Street Band rarity, and delights fans with “Jersey Girl” in the encores.
