New for 2024: Video for 1988
1973: Bruce plays the third of four nights at My Father’s Place on Long Island.
1981: Bruce and the E Street Band resume the River Tour with the first of two shows at Toronto’s Maple Leaf Gardens.
1983: Bruce records “Little Girl (Like You)” and “Betty Jean.” Both remain unreleased to this day.
1987: In his home studio, Bruce kicks off recording sessions for what would become his next album, Tunnel of Love. On this first day, Bruce records “Walk Like a Man,” “Spare Parts,” and “When You Need Me.” That last one won’t be released for more than a decade.
1988: Bruce inducts Bob Dylan into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at New York’s Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. This is the last public appearance Bruce will make with his wife, Julianne Phillips. The all-star jam is a joy to watch, particularly Bruce and Mick Jagger sharing the microphone for “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.”
1991: Bruce joins Max and others at McLoone’s Rum Runner in Sea Bright, New Jersey for a benefit for Jim Faulkner. Amongst the set of covers: a smoking “Tobacco Road.”
1994: At the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, Rod Stewart and Elton John are slated to perform a duet of “Come Together.” At the last minute, Rod isn’t able to make it, so the producers ask Bruce to step in. Bruce declines, so they move on to Axl Rose, who accepts. Apparently Axl is a more intriguing duet partner than Elton, though, because when Axl asks Bruce to join him, this time Bruce says yes. Axl and Bruce had no warning this was coming, and therefore no rehearsal time. Mere minutes after being asked to step in, this is what went down.
2018: Springsteen on Broadway continues its theatrical run at the Walter Kerr Theater in New York City.
2021: Bruce’s From My Home to Yours radio show returns with its first new episode of the year, Volume 17: “Lawyers, Guns & Money.”
That evening, Bruce kicks off the inaugural celebration for President Joe Biden with a gorgeous solo performance of “Land of Hope and Dreams.”
