New for 2024: Review for 1970; new entry for 2023
1970: When Boz Scaggs gets sick and cancels his headlining gig at The Matrix in San Francisco, Steel Mill is promoted from opener to headliner. The band plays for more than an hour to a small crowd that includes journalist Philip Elwood, who was expecting to see and review Boz Scaggs. Needing to turn in something, he reviews Steel Mill instead and writes that he has “never been so overwhelmed by a totally unknown talent.” You can hear the groovy, very 70’s set here:
1973: Bruce and the band continue their Boston residency with two shows at Paul’s Mall.
1985: The Born in the U.S.A. Tour makes a stop at the Carolina Coliseum in Columbia, South Carolina for one night only.
1993: Bruce inducts Creedence Clearwater Revival into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
2012: Bruce films the video for “We Take Care of Our Own” in Asbury Park. Willie Nile and John Eddie join him for the shoot.
2014: Bruce sits down for an interview on NPR with Ann Powers.
After the interview, Bruce and the E Street Band (+Tom Morello, -Steve Van Zandt) rehearse for their appearance the next day on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.
2018: Springsteen on Broadway continues its theatrical run at the Walter Kerr Theater in New York City.
2019: At a special screening of Springsteen on Broadway at Monmouth University, Bruce slips in unnoticed after the lights go down. He watches the movie with director Thom Zimny and then quietly leaves before the house lights come up.
2023: Bruce and the E Street Band rehearse for their upcoming world tour at The Vogel in Red Bank, New Jersey. Today’s session focuses heavily on covers from Only the Strong Survive, with multiple run-throughs of “Do I Love You (Indeed I Do)” (which will not be played during the tour), “Don’t Play That Song” (which will be dropped after two weeks), and “Nightshift,” which will remain a setlist tentpole throughout.
