New for 2023: Audio for 1980 and 2004; review for 2007
The Bruce Springsteen Band completes their residency at the Student Prince in Asbury Park. Following this show, Bruce will drive out to California to visit his parents, with no clear return date in mind. The band will continue on without him for a time, reverting to The Sundance Blues Band.
Bruce and his unnamed band play their last of a three-night stand at the Student Prince in Asbury Park.
Bruce plays his first-ever show in Canada when the Born to Run Tour stops in Montreal. The Montreal Gazette reporter who reviewed the show was decidedly unimpressed.
Bruce and the boys take the Darkness Tour up the west coast, stopping in Portland for a show at the Paramount Theater.
Bruce and the E Street Band play their second of two River Tour nights at Madison Square Garden.
Nebraska is certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America.
Bruce performs a solo acoustic rendition of “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town” at perhaps the most unexpected venue for it: the funeral for long-time friend John Mulheren at the Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church in Rumson.
This year’s holiday shows are at Harry’s Roadhouse in Asbury Park, and although there are a pair of shows, they’re both on the same night. Bobby Bandiera provides the backing band for both shows; Southside Johnny guest stars for the early show (joining Bruce for “The Fever“) and Max, Patti, and Willie Nile join Bruce for the late show. Both setlists are a mix of seasonal and eclectic, and both deserve a listen this time each year.
The first European leg of the Magic Tour wraps up in London at the O2 Arena.
Bruce and the E Street Band perform on Saturday Night Live, where Bruce debuts “Meet Me in the City.” They also play “The Ties That Bind,” and in a departure for the show, they play a third song: “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town” with Paul McCartney, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and the entire cast and crew.
Springsteen on Broadway continues its theatrical run at the Walter Kerr Theater in New York City. In attendance tonight: Meryl Streep and Jamie Foxx.
Bruce calls the E Street Radio studio to discuss his newly released Springsteen on Broadway streaming video.
