New for 2023: Video for 2009

1968: The Castiles headline at the West End Casino in Long Branch, New Jersey.

1974: A scheduled E Street Band gig in Memphis is cancelled.

1984: At the Civic Center Arena in St. Paul, the day before the Born in the U.S.A. Tour begins, director Brian De Palma films footage for the video for “Dancing in the Dark.” Bruce performs before an “audience” of three professional models (including future actress Courtney Cox), five lucky fans, and at least 200 extras behind the stage. To thank the intimate crowd, Bruce and the band perform a mini-concert concluding with “Detroit Medley” when the shoot is complete. Bruce fan (and E Street Shuffle guest blogger!) Sandi Pederson is one of the five lucky locals chosen to join the models and extras for the video shoot. Read her guest Where the Band Was report to find out what it was like to be up close with Bruce for his iconic video shoot.

1988: The Tunnel of Love Tour arrives in Rotterdam for the first of two nights.

1993: Bruce joins Clarence and the Red Bank Rockers on stage for 30 minutes of their set at Tradewinds in Sea Bright, New Jersey.

2003: Bruce and the E Street Band play their final European Rising show in Milan during an intense thunderstorm. Check out the video below to see how intense the rain was during the performance, and for the beautiful performance (and tour premiere) of “Follow That Dream.”

2005: Bruce plays his final European solo acoustic show at ICC Berlin, where Bruce tour premieres “Sinaloa Cowboys” and Wolfgang Niedecken guest-stars for the tour premiere of “Hungry Heart.”

2009: Bruce and the E Street Band headline Hard Rock Calling in London’s Hyde Park, where Brian Fallon repeats his “No Surrender” guest appearance from the day before, and Bruce repeats as well by joining The Gaslight Anthem for “The ’59 Sound” during their own set. Bruce opens the show (appropriately) with “London Calling.” This show is filmed, broadcast, and released on DVD and Blu-ray as London Calling: Live in Hyde Park.

2018: Springsteen on Broadway continues its theatrical run at the Walter Kerr Theater in New York City. Actress Cate Blanchett and Jon Bon Jovi are in attendance tonight.
