New for 2023: Audio for 1984
1976: Bruce drops by The Hanger in Hazlet, New Jersey, to see Gary U.S. Bonds perform–unknown to Gary. Mid-show, the owner whispers to Gary that Bruce is in the audience and is interested in joining him on stage. Gary has no idea who Bruce is, but his band does and they encourage Bonds to say yes. He does, and Bruce and Gary meet for the first time. Bruce borrows a guitar and plays with Bonds and the band for about an hour, and afterwards Bruce invites Gary to join him at his show at the Palladium the following week.
1984: At their second of two nights at the Oakland Coliseum on the Born in the U.S.A. Tour, Bruce and the band tour premiere “Stolen Car” and play their very first performance of “Shut Out the Light.” Bruce brings his sister Pam on stage for “Dancing in the Dark.”
1992: Bruce and his new band play their second of two nights at Mountain View’s Shoreline Amphitheater, featuring the last performance to date of “The Long Goodbye.”
1996: Bruce plays a solo acoustic show at the Civic Theater in San Diego.
2002: Bruce tour premieres “The River” in a new solo guitar arrangement at his Rising Tour stop in Rotterdam. “Countin’ on a Miracle” also receives a new arrangement, with Nils debuting a beautiful new acoustic introduction.
2006: When the Seeger Sessions Tour comes to Granada, Bruce opens the encores with a tour debut, an acoustic “The Promised Land.”
2007: At Night Two in Chicago on the Magic Tour, “Tunnel of Love,” “Spirit in the Night,” and ” “Thunder Road” make their tour debuts.
2011: Bruce (along with Roy, Max, Bobby Bandiera’s band and a horn section) plays a benefit show for Boston College at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, featuring Bruce’s first “A Woman’s Got the Power” in 27 years.
2020: It’s the day before the release of Bruce’s latest album, and the virtual publicity tour is in full swing. This morning, E Street Radio airs Episode 4 of Letter to You Radio, featuring a conversation between Bruce and Jon Stewart.
Also today, NPR airs an interview with Bruce.
Finally, Apple TV+ releases the Letter to You documentary film, featuring Bruce and E Street Band recording their new album.
And in the last hour before Release Day, Apple Music’s Zane Lowe interviews Bruce and moderates questions from fans in a New Music Daily special event.
